Every morning I wake to Morning Edition, giving me my heads-up on the first news of the day. At night, I fall asleep to the cultured tones of the BBC News, giving me that global perspective from "across the pond." WVPE is my source for news early and late.

opening my mind to a new and broader horizon of the world. If I could super-glue the radio button to 88.1, I would.

As an Elkhart native currently working in Taipei, Taiwan . . . WVPE Live Streaming online is my source . . . for staying connected with happenings in Michiana . . . for keeping up with national and international news . . . for jazz and blues music . . . for a cultural lifeline 8000 miles long.

... homecoming. I take a lot of road trips and I try to find an NPR station wherever I go. But when I'm coming back to South Bend, I keep checking 88.1 to see if I'm within range of WVPE yet. I start listening as soon as I can, even when it's still fuzzy. When I hear the voice of Michael Linville or Lee Burdorf, I know I'm just about home.

global balance and personal understanding of the world in which we all live closer and closer with each other. By taking me inside deeper than national media, as a listener, I have a broader understanding of my role toward politics and our environment.

News News and news. Total seclusion from HollyWeird news and car sales ad's. NPR/WVPE is my CONNECTION.

my perception of the world events in real time. News stories are very often heard first on NPR and covered in such depth that it makes larger news organizations second best.

WVPE is my source for continuing education and entertainment. It’s my window on the world that allows me to know what is going on in the United States and the world. WVPE exposes me to new concepts and diverse points of view. WVPE is a local treasure that enriches all our lives and that we all need to support.

Please get rid of ol harv...he is such a bummer...'celebrate you soul to the blues'?!He plays the same 17 songs almost every week, and promoting his own band seems like a conflict of interest,no?

companionship. I commute two hours a day to work and always listen to WVPE. All the people on NPR and WVPE keep me company on my long journey. They are informative, entertaining, and reliable. In my car I might learn something new, travel to an exotic place, meet interesting people, laugh, cry,or get angry. No matter the weather, the traffic, or my mood,I am never alone as long as I have WVPE.

When I listen to public radio I hear lots of different viewpoints, which increases not only my understanding of the world but my compassion for those who walk other paths of life.

WVPE is my source for Mad Dash moments, when I run from my car, into the house to turn on the radio. You see, after 911, I was a Cable news junkie... I sat on my couch, glued to the set as the same scary stories played over and over. I was ready to never leave the house again...... Then I found Public Radio. WVPE has been a calm voice sharing important news alongside other stories of life, love and laughter.... and yes.... I enjoy my Mad dash moments.... Thank you, WVPE

hope for the future. Bertrand Russell said, "The trouble with the world is that, The stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt". WVPE & NPR nobly confront that "trouble" for their listeners daily at no charge. That is no small reason to hope for a better future.

knowing more. As I discuss issues with my friends and collegues I find I usually know more about an issue, because I heard an in depth discussion on NPR instead of a 30 second sound bite. I like knowing more.

informing my family. During the 2004 primary season, I heard the story that less than 50% of adult registered Democrats could name more than 2 of the 7 major candidates for the democratic nomination. That evening, I asked each of my children if they could name any. My high school son named all 7 and my jr hi daughter named 6. When I expressed surprise that they knew more than most adults, my daughter gave me a pained expression and sign "Mom, you have NPR on every morning while we get ready for school and every evening while you make supper. We can't help but learn things." Several years later, I got into her car and the radio was set on 88.1. I commented on this and she said " What can I say? You got me hooked and they do have interesting stories."

I used to live in Edwardsburg and was a member of wvpe. I have moved to Taos NM which is a wonderful place to live except that I can't quite pull in your signal. I wish I could listen live over my computer.

WVPE is my source for enlightened companionship. While on a road trip, when I was a junior in college, I stumbled across a different type of radio sation. I was listening to All Things Considered and it was my first experience with National Public Radio. That was in 1978 and I have been hooked ever since. I currently work at home and enjoy listening to WVPE all day long. I have several radios in my house and listen to Diana Rehm, Terry Gross and Neal Conan as I move from room to room. It's like having an intelligent, open minded, well informed friend to chat with all day long. WVPE keeps me company and helps me stay informed and entertained.

Pain... WVPE / NPR is on frequency 88.1 but it "blurrs" into 88.3 . A channel out of Kalamazoo that I like to listen to.

background knowledge -- in the arts and culture, in science and world news. As a teacher of literacy in the Goshen Community Schools, building background knowledge is essential to helping my students learn to read. The more they know about the world around them, the more the words on the page make sense. The background knowledge I gain from listening to the broad programming on WVPE/NPR makes me a more effective teacher in my school and a better informed citizen in my community. And don't just listen; be a member of WVPE!!

Companionship. When my twin boys were born two years ago and spent the next year and a half on life support, WVPE was my sole contact with the world outside hospitals, doctors, machines, and the constant presence of death. Gabriel and Nico are now happy and healthy toddlers - and loyal WVPE listeners. WVPE connected me with the world and saved me from what would have otherwise been an unbearable isolation.
