IU Latin Jazz Ensemble coming to IUSB

Under the direction of two musicians who have earned numerous Grammy nominations, the Indiana University

Latin Jazz Ensemble prides itself on getting folks out of their seats and onto the dance floor with their big sound and driving rhythms. Percussionist Michael Spiro and trombonist Wayne Wallace lead a 24-piece band of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music students on brass, woodwinds, guitar, bass, piano, percussion, and vocals. Their signature sound—self-described as a semi-truck going down the highway—is a modern hybrid of Latin Jazz, Afro-Cuban folkloric music, and African-American musical styles.

Members of the Latin Jazz Ensemble are selected from the jazz ensemble auditions at the beginning of the fall semester.  The energetic Latin Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Michael Spiro performs for the first time at IUSB on Tuesday, March 3rd in the the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall.  Tickets range from $5 to $9 and the event is free to students, faculty and staff.
