"Science Friday " host coming to Notre Dame

  Ira Flatow, host of the national radio show "Science Friday," will present a public lecture Oct. 13 at the University of Notre Dame and tape his national radio show before an audience here Oct. 15 in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.

Both events are among a series of activities that will take place during the next year hosted by the College of Science to celebrate 150 years of science at Notre Dame.

Flatow will present an address titled "Science is the New Sexy" at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 13 in Washington Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

An episode of Flatow's show "Science Friday" will be taped at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Leighton Concert Hall in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the general public are $25 each, and are available online at:performingarts.nd.edu or call the box office at 574-631-2800. The show will be broadcast on Public Radio International stations across the country on Oct. 17.

In conjunction with the science theme, the Center for History in South Bend is offering a year-long exhibit, “From Astrophysics to Zebrafish: 150 Years of Science at Notre Dame.” Focusing on Notre Dame’s history of scientific research and education, the exhibit includes artifacts of early scientific lab equipment, fossils, and photos of Notre Dame scientists and their discoveries. The exhibit is open to the public through Aug. 2, 2015. There is an admission fee.
