In The Heights

South Bend Civic Theatre

 

The South Bend Civic Theatre has launched a social media campaign to persuade Lin-Manuel Miranda to come see its production of In The Heights.

In The Heights is a Tony Award-winning musical created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is also the man behind smash hit Hamilton.

The musical is set in a predominantly Latinx community in New York City. The South Bend Civic Theatre formed a steering committee to commit to putting on the play in what they call an “authentic way.”

 

The South Bend Civic Theatre opens their production of In The Heights on Friday. They approached this musical differently then they have in the past in an effort to accurately portray the story and bring new people into the theatre.

 

In The Heights is a Tony Award winning musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the man behind Hamilton. It tells the story of three eventful days in the life of a predominantly Latinx community in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City.

 

The South Bend Civic Theatre is holding a symposium Tuesday evening on race and identity in American theatre as part of the lead-up to it’s run of the musical “In The Heights.”

 

The symposium is a panel discussion and conversation about the people in American Theatre and the stories that are being told.
