WVPE Underwriting

We’ll help you make your on-air announcement most effective.
Your underwriting announcement will be crafted to identify your business or organization as a supporter of quality programming available on WVPE Public Radio. At the same time, it will comply with all FCC regulations applicable to noncommercial stations.

Messages are 20 seconds in length, including an introductory phrase.

Your message may include as many of the following elements as time permits: Important Do’s and Don’ts
The Federal Communications Commission mandates that underwriting announcements may not include qualitative, comparative or promotional language. Calls to action, pricing information (including the word “free”) and inducements to buy or sell are not allowed. In addition, pre-produced announcements and the use of music beds are not permitted. Voicing will be done by WVPE announcers. Ultimately, final approval of copy lies with WVPE. A copy of WVPE’s complete underwriting guidelines is available by request

Why such rules?
The goal is to protect the non-commercial content that WVPE Public Radio listeners value so highly. In this way, the special integrity of the relationship between us and our listeners extends to you, the underwriter, as well. Our listeners positively identify underwriters with Public Radio’s high-quality programming, and respond favorably to factual information without commercial tones.
