"Brothers on the Battlefield" Coming to IUSB

Brothers on the Battlefield is a theatrically-staged production including a historically-informed narrative and a multi-media presentation in honor of the end of the 150th Anniversary of The American Civil War. Presented by The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass  the show is Saturday, March 5th at 7pm in the Campus Auditorium of North Side Hall.

6 Virtuoso brass musicians (plus narrator and piano) perform a broad range of music from the Civil War through the Civil Rights Movement. The concert is tied together through narration which includes dramatic readings from Civil War letters and inspirational readings by Dr. Martin Luther King interspersed with multi-media depicting breathtaking images as the music that influenced America from before the Civil War to just after the Civil Rights Movement is played by The Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass.

Well known works like “When the Saints Go Marching In”, the beloved “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein, memorable tunes by Glen Miller like “String of Pearls”, and “In the Mood”, and toe tapping marches by John Philip Sousa like “Stars and Stripes Forever” will make for a fun filled memorable evening that touches upon both the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movements. The Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass is widely considered to be one of the world’s leading brass ensembles. A group that always reflects the diverse makeup of men and women in the American culture, the group is especially dedicated to reaching out to the world’s youth and inspiring them to reach for their dreams.  Clickhere for ticket information.
