IUSB Teddy Bear Concert is December 11th

The holiday season is about giving.  IUSB patrons are getting into the holiday spirit and giving teddy bears to those less fortunate in exchange for a great show.

Dean Marvin Curtis will serve as director of the choirs of IU South Bend for the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts’ annual “Teddy Bear Concert” on Friday, December 11 in the Campus Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets will cost $7-$12 or the gift of a new teddy bear to brighten the yuletide of a stranger. The new teddy bears will be donated to South Bend Dismas House and the Center for the Homeless after the concert.

The South Bend Symphonic Choir, IU South Bend Chorale, and IU South Bend Chamber Choir will come together under Curtis’ direction to perform “The Twelve Days of Christmas” with string accompaniment for your enjoyment. The IUSB Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Darrel Tidaback will join the Kickline led by Carolyn Hine-Johnson for performances of holiday classics, and the IU South Bend Gospel Choir is performing with the IU South Bend African Dancers.

For the seventh annual concert the joint choirs will also perform “In Silent Night” written by Mitchell Southall and “In a Manger Low” by Betty Gadling.

The organizations that the teddy bears are being donated to are both local and not-for-profit. South Bend Dismas House is an organization aimed toward bringing a mutual reconciliation between former offenders and the community. They provide a home for previous offenders with a positive living environment, giving back to the community through volunteer work.

The Center for the Homeless is in its 27th year of operation, helping break the cycle of homelessness. The teddy bears will be shared with the families of clients to help promote a happy holiday season.

Admission to the “Teddy Bear Concert” is a new bear.  Tickets will also be available for sale for $7-$12 through the arts box office.  Box office hours are 11 am-6 pm Monday through Friday and one hour prior to the concert.  For more information and to get tickets visit arts.iusb.edu or call 574-520-4203.
