Indiana is gearing up for primary elections, but some places in Michigan will have voting Tuesday as well. Twenty-five school bond proposals are up for a vote across the state including one in Stevensville.
Lakeshore Public Schools is asking for$21 millionfor facility upgrades and maintenance, new playground equipment, buses and technology, among other things.
The request is to keep the current tax levels at 4.2 mills. If the bond fails the taxes in the district will fall by 1.3 mills by the end of this year.
A mill is a unit of measure used to calculate property taxes. One mill is $1 for every $1,000 of assessed property value. So a home worth $100,000 taxed at 4.2 mills would pay $420 worth of taxes to the school district.
Last November, an identical bond proposal was on the ballot and failed.
Voters in the district, which includes Stevensville and Baroda will be able to again choose whether or not to fund the proposal.
Michigan is holding only special elections in May. Regular primaries in the state are August seventh.
