Business and community leaders around Marshall County met Thursday in Plymouth to discuss projects and funding as part of Indiana’s Stellar Region Initiative.

The Stellar Regions Initiative, from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, aims to promote regionalism throughout the state. Cities and towns in  Marshall County are working together to implement projects to improve the quality of life in the area.

Jerry Chavez is President and CEO of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation. He said they’re assessing how to best utilize resources and funds for projects communities really want.

“I think what we’re seeing today is people are saying, ‘yeah, we have to keep up with the times,” Chavez said, “We have to recognize that everybody else is advancing their community forward. It’s incumbent for us to do the same thing.”

Marshall County is one of six Indiana regions competing in the 2018 Stellar Region initiative. The county hopes to submit Strategic Investment Plans detailing projects in September.
